HOW TO MAKE FONDANT EASTER CHICKS IN A NEST - CUPCAKE TOPPER

In this tutorial I will show you how to make fondant chicks in a nest to use as an Easter cupcake topper.

ITEMS YOU WILL NEED:

STEP 1
Choose the round cutter that you think is the most appropriate size to fit about ½ the base of your flower formers.

Roll out your brown fondant to about 3-6mm and cut out enough circles to make the bases of your nests.

STEP 2
Place the circles into the bases.

STEP 3
Knead your brown fondant until very soft and place into your gum extruder (If you do not have an extruder you could roll your fondant into very thin spaghetti strands and wrap these around the base to form your nest).

STEP 4
Extrude the fondant out and around the base until you have formed a rough nest shape. Use your balling tool to open up the nest and flatten slightly.

STEP 5
Knead and roll out your orange fondant.

STEP 6
With your flat- ended fondant tool cut out small diamonds, gently shape into a beak shape and leave on your non-stick baking paper to harden.

STEP 7
Roll out the yellow fondant to about 6mm and cut out circles using the round cutter – this will ensure that all your chicks are about the same size. Shape into egg shapes and place 3 into your nest.

STEP 8
Push 2 sprinkles into the fondant for eyes and then, using the edible glue, stick on a beak for each chick. Allow the nests to dry for at least 1 day before removing from the flower formers. Once fully dry you can store in an airtight container until ready to use.
